Events after The Rolando Mendoza Hostage Taking, Pictures and President Noynoy

Barely a 3 days after the hostage drama where disgraced former Police Inspector Rolando Mendoza held hostage a bus full of tourists in the Quirino Grandstand, Philippines is under siege again due to facebook pictures hostage taking area of various bystanders. Ordinary citizens were taking pictures of themselves beyond the perimeter of the bus and the pictures were found uploaded in facebook. Most prominent is the picture of a group of student nurses that recently went viral in 4chan.org releasing a slew of photoshopped pictures showing the same student nurses in various backgrounds. Normally the picture wouldn’t incite such comments from other countries; it was the picture of some police officers near the bus that got the attention of the media. Some of the pictures showed smiling police officers posing in the crime scene in broad daylight.

In other news, President Benigno Noynoy Aquino III was bashed for his lack of appearance and orders during the incident. He is also under fire after a video of his press conference showed the president of the Republic of the Philippines smiling. Chinese news immediately picked up the footage and started reporting the facial expression that was very inappropriate for the situation.

Recently, President Noynoy apologized for his facial expression saying

“I smile when I’m faced with a very absurd situation”

Which drew more criticism in the youtube video comments as there was nothing absurd with the Roland Mendoza hostage incident as it was depressing. Facebook fanpages of President Noynoy was also taken down after angry Chinese commentors attacked the web pages to which the supporters of President Noynoy, the Yellow Army, fired back turning the whole webpage into a verbal war with slangs and racistic comments heating up the conversation. Among the comments found in the webpages and youtube and even forums is that the alleged overdose of anti depressants by the Philippine President causing him to smile in a very depressing incident. BBC UK also stated ten things the Philippine Bus siege police got wrong apparently because of the lack of orders coming from the Commander in Chief.

  1. The police shouldn’t be slacking. They need to do something to compensate their failed management of the hostage crisis. Instead of investigating the scene, they took pictures instead.

In the senate inquiry, police commanders at hostage scene admitted 1 crucial blunder that should have handled the siege better. Philippine National Police has a more elite regiment that SWAT called Sepcial Action Forces or SAF. This regiment is controlled by the higher National Police as compared to a SWAT which is controlled by local police department.

This SAF was present on the scene of the hostage taking waiting for commands.

But the commanders opted to use his local SWAT instead of SAF.

One senator ask why on the given situation the commanders not use the SAF which is more equiped for the job.

The answer is because the commander thinks his local SWAT can do it.

    Think?

    Damn You!

I feel for you. There were a lot of things that the SWAT did wrong. What made me angry and laugh at the same time was when they used tear gas when they didn’t even have gas masks. Somehow almost 20 men against 1 lone gunman, overkill yet they couldn’t even stop him from killing a couple of hostages. The media was also at fault for broadcasting every movement of the SWAT and Mendoza could clearly see the whole thing on the television inside the bus.

Got anything to say?
