95.5 The Beat signs off air as a contemporary radio station playing pop songs. Instead 95.5 The beat will have a simulcast of News from Talk WSB 24 hours. Vice President Market Manager Dan Kearney released a letter explaining the sudden signing off of 95.5 The Beat to the listeners of the said radio station.
The radio will still exist however from a radio station that plays popular songs, it will now feature a 24 hour simulcast of news with station WSB. In Kearney’s letter he says that The Beat was able to bring the latest hits to their listeners however market analysis showed that the radio station was barely making it with a low fanbase. Advertisers also did not sign up for ads in the radio station and the management could not keep up in terms of profit.
With the reformat of the radio station, Kearney insists that listeners can still log on to www.9555thebeat.com to listen to the top his online. A sad thing though affected by the reformat is the lost of DJs of the beat such as Murphy dawg and CJ and other DJs that rocked The Beat. Listeners will also miss that lady from 95.5 the beat who makes prank calls (she’s Carmen by the way) as well as a lot of antics by the Djs. Listeners will miss Maverick and K-Dub and there has been no mention of them being part of the online radio. As for the staff, they will be given the chance to be incorporated in the Cox Radio family. That’s a good deal considering that Cox radio has almost 86 radio stations targetting 19 markets.
Although The Beat has not changed much especially their weekly line up that has remained the same in several years however the station is not getting much younger listeners and current fans have become older. The beat signed off today with a final set of songs and will begin featuring WSB news 24/7 in an effort to widen fanbase and listeners.
I don’t like this. I loved 95.5 the beat. I listened every morning and I loved the dj’s. It was the best radio station on the radio and the news casting sucks. It will get way less reveiws!!! Thanks
I really think that they shouldn’t have went off air.unless they are planing on returning . The beat was the only reason to listen to the radio. That news station is so lame I don’t even listen to it.I really miss the Carmen call to. I realy wish they would get back on air .
Its a shame that the heads of the radio station could not revamp a strategy to compete with other stations. Truth be told, the fan base would have been appealed had there been more involvement with the station altogether. Unlike other stations, 95.5 the beat hardly ever got out to interact with the fans.
A sad day in Atlanta local radio…… now the only stations left to listen to are either ghetto, hood, old school or worse than that…. Steve Harvey. (lord help us all).
Man this is messed up for real. 95.5 the beat needs to get back on the air. The other radio stations is wack!
Oh my goodness, why did they have to take 95.5 the beat off the radio. Man they better put it back on air. That was my favorite radio station with my favorite songs. Now im sitting here all depressed with nothing to listen to except for all these other boring stations.
I’m so sick about yall bitching about 955 the beat changing to WSB. I like the change. The station had no fans. V-103 had them all as well as WSB. Please shut the hell up and get a life. I get my beat on with WSB. Hahahahahahaha! News Talk WSB, Atlanta’s News weather and trafic station.
I am SO happy they are gone! whew… what a relief! Seriously murph Dog or whatever and that girl sounded like idiots… and why did they speak like that??? they were super annoying! glad to see them go they lasted too long
